HOW IT'S MADE

Nothing like a factory tour to put things into perspective. In the clothing business, I believe it's vital to see the whole process to better understand your place in the whole thing. As a designer, it becomes more and more important to realize the capabilities of your vendors and the best way to get what you want at the end of the day. It is always an eye-opening experience to see how many steps are involved in making our product. Here are some shots from our most recent tour of a massive facility about 40 minutes outside of downtown Ningbo.

SCOOT OVER

Who needs a pick-up truck, SUV or mini van when you can roll a scooter all over town? Here in Ningbo they are everywhere and in all shapes and sizes. The scooter is China's workhorse. They carry everything form gallons of water, eight foot bamboo polls and even a full grown chow chow. They are for the factory worker, family of four and young professional. Take a look for yourself.

CHECKED OUT

Pack, get some breakfast and check out just in time to pack the van full of all of our luggage and head off to our next stop, Ningbo. As I looked out onto the harbor, I thanked the city for another great trip and stood in awe of the view one last time. This place has watched me grow up as a designer over the last six years and the memories of the friends and co-workers I have shared those times with will stay with me forever. So, with that being said, Here are a few random pic's from the last three days in this bustling city...干杯(gan bei) or cheers Hong Kong. Until we meet again.

FUNKY FRESH

Is that filleted fishes heart still beating? Now that's what I call fresh fish! Culture shock can come in many forms and this trip to Hong Kong is no different. As Brett and I wondered through some back alleys we found this row of shops where the locals were getting there goods. Not exactly your neighborhood Whole Foods market and half the stuff was still alive and kicking while the butcher did his work. A sight to see for sure. Bon appetit!

THESE STREETS HAVE LAYERS

Is that really a stencil of Hello Kitty taking a dump? Why yes and it is awesome! The back alleys of Hong Kong rule. The layers of stone, brick, bamboo, exposed electrical work and polished marble accompanied with the ware and tear of hard living and ocean air really gives this place it's own flare. Now add I nice layer of street art on top of all that and it makes it that much cooler. I don't think I walked more than 5 feet at a time between snapping photos (sorry about that Brett) and I was loving every minute. Here are some of my favorites. This is day one mind you, much more to come.
